Pet Loss Support and Grief Counseling
My Dog Died – Pet Bereavement
Pet Bereavement Counseling
There comes a time when every pet owner need to face the inevitable loss of their cherished friend. Whether by accident or terminal medical diagnosis, an animal owner often requires time to digest the news and make peace with the circumstance.
In the moments following a pet’s death or euthanasia, our group can use support through the grieving process. Being animal owners ourselves, we understand and appreciate how clients feel when their cherished pet and member of the family is gone.
Through our empathy with our client, we can help them move toward reforming the relationship they shared with their family pet into a memory that permanently memorializes the life that was and help them acknowledge all that was lost, while developing new hope for the future.
Regular Signs of Grief
It is normal to experience a multitude of feelings after the loss of a pet. Many experience sadness, weeping, anxiety, anger, shock and confusion. You might experience fatigue, sleep disturbances and even dream about your pet. Some find it difficult to focus and might experience physical pain or disease. - It’s ALL RIGHT to CRY and show outward signs of grief for your beloved pet companion. The bond between a humans and animals can be very powerful, and for many people, the loss of a pet is felt as deeply as the loss of a close friend or family member. Let yourself feel the pain and loss, but remember to also appreciate all the years you spent together with your beloved companion.
- Discuss with friends and family, the good times, the bad times and talk about the illness or trauma that may have lead to the death or loss of your pet. Sharing the marvelous, joyful moments and memories you have of your pet will assist you in your progressing through the grieving process much faster.

Include the entire family, his playmates and canine friends and pray together, recall favorite memories or plant a tree or flower garden in your pet’s memory.
- Make a donation in your pet’s honor to your local animal shelter.
